How do you configure IE v7 to launch Windows Media Player to play mp3 files?

I have associated Media Player with the file extension mp3, and it works fine from a file browser or from Firefox.

Open any folder and click the tools menu>folder options>file types. Under the extension column, find mp3 and click on it to highlight it. Then click the advanced button and uncheck the line that says "confirm open after download ". Click the OK button and then close the window. If you do this, clicking any link to a mp3 file should result with it opening in your default mp3 player without any additional input from you. However, after doing this, if you want to download the file without opening it, you'll have to right click on the link and choose "save target as ".

The problem is not that I have to confirm that I want it to open and play -- IE tries to play the mp3 file, hangs and displays the yellow triangle with an ! (see above) in the status line.
