How To Remove Unread Mail Notification When All Found Methods Dont Work

    i searched google for how to disable the windows xp logon screen unread mail notification with sucess finding how to go into the system registery and follow the below steps.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
    Software\
    Microsoft\
    Windows\
    CurrentVersion\
    UnreadMail

    as found on this site
    my problem is that in my system registery i DONT have 'unreadmail' under the 'current version' tab
    before you ask i am completey sure its not there checking several other windows tabs...
    i also tried to download and intall a vb script which when ran should change this setting for you after restart
    this also did not work
    i am running windows xp professional sp2
    could somebode please help me

    See: Change Unread Mail Settings On Welcome Screen.

    If you don't have the key UnreadMail under HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \, your system may not be in a good state, AFAIK this key should always be there. Maybe you deleted it, or used 3rd party software that deleted the key.

    Anyway, you can just add the key back.

    it shouldnt be

    I only just reinstalled windows about two weeks ago
    i have a dell laptop and used the windows version supplied with the computer which is a dell version... what type of software would remove this key because i have not opened the system registry before this attempt...

    If you have not setup a supported email client the key will not be there.

    Supported clients are Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Windows Messenger.

    yeah this worked although i did find this link or a similar one before but it took me to a windows xp welcome screen that had nothing to do with power toys
