I am running XP Pro (Service Pack 2). I have a Dell Latitude D820 with 2 GHz and 2GB RAM. I have no problem setting my computer to the settings I want while extending to the second screen (a 24" Samsung 1920 x 1200). My problem lies with going from user to user or when the system goes to sleep. I have to continually reset the extended screen settings. How do I lock them in?

Note that this problem is recent. It used to stay at the correct settings, but now it doesn't.

mekozak - Welcome to the Board :)

To make system wide settings you must be logged on with administrative rights - are you?

It would not harm to completely uninstall the video card and software and reinstall - there may be a corrupted registry entry somewhere.

How do I uninstall the video card?

PeteC, Thanks for the reply. How do I reinstall the video card. Should I go to the "Device Manager" and uninstall the "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M" card and then restart the machine? Or is there some other way?

Do you have the drivers for the nVidia card?

If so go to Device Manager and right click on the card > uninstall/remove. Then go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the driver software. Not knowing if you have an nVidia chipset on the motherboard there should be an entry for nVidia drivers - click on this > Change/remove and select only the video drivers. and uninstall them. Reboot and when the New Hardware wizard pops up close it and load the video drivers from the .exe file or setup on the driver CD. Then use Windows Control Panel > Display rather than the nVidia software to extend the desktop across 2 monitors.

If you are not clear post back.

I've moved your thread to the Hardware forum.

    PeteC,

Thanks for your comment. The problem seems to be cured, although I'm not sure how. I uninstalled the hardware. When uninstalling the hardware, it asked me if I should also delete the software. Then came a message asking if I should delete the registers. I said yes to both. Upon rebooting, I had to reset the screen, but the hardware and software (drivers) seems to reinstall themselves without me doing anything. And it seems to work just fine now for all users. Thanks for your help.

    You're welcome :)

Sounds like the possibility of a touch of corruption somewhere was not too far off the mark!

    PeteC,

Interesting followup problem. Though my screen resolution problems are gone, I seem so have inherited a new problem. My capability to "hibernate" seems to have disappeared where before I used it often. In fact, my current screens says it is not even there. My machine now also doesn't go to sleep when I shut the screen like it did in the past. What did I delete and how do I get it back?

PeteC, That's my problem. The hibernate tab is NO LONGER THERE! I have nothing to check or uncheck. That's why I'm so puzzled. (By the way, thanks for the continued support).
