I listened to a bad source and deleted all my usb ports to try to solve a external harddrive issue. So the problem is I can't acknowlege the prompts to reloqad the drivers because the mouse and keyboard are usb and I d not have ps2 connections. I tried to boot off of a XP cd but its not working (something in german pops up. the Keyboard works when you hits F2 and go into setup.Any suggestions on how to get those drivers back in.

    Thanks

Have you restarted? drivers should reload with a reboot. Can you get into the BIOS setup?

    Interesting problem

The other day I needed to reset the drivers of a (USB) mouse. I disconnected the mouse and started Windows. I connected the mouse when Windows was running (hot-plugged) and the drivers were reinstalled. You might want to try something similar, but only with the mouse, the keyboard works differently.

Try booting into Safe Mode (tap the F8 rapidly before you would normally see the Windows loading screen), basic drivers may be loaded there. In Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I would uninstall all the listings, the Controllers and then the Hubs should be automatically reinstalled when you reboot into normal mode.

If there is keyboard or mouse "helper" software installed, look at disabling it in Safe Mode.

Still stuck? A PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard should get you working again.

If your PC is a desktop, open and remove than replace the small, flat round CMOS battery.
This should restore your basic settings which, hopefully, will restore the mobo's USB drivers.

    That is an interesting problem.

Only usb input devices on PC. The USB entries in device manager get deleted. Any USB device plugged in will not register until USB controllers are reloaded. USB controllers need manual input to reload. Oh...and no PS/2 connector for different type of input.

I find it hard to believe that the USB controllers will not automatically reload after being deleted. Usually things like this will reload unless they are actually disabled.

Anyway...Maybe one of these suggestion will help

Is there remote software installed on the PC? Someone could remote it and use it.

Maybe try using system restore on boot up.

Try a WinXP repair with the Boot CD.

Pull the Hard drive out, put it in another WinXP machine. Write a script that you can put in the [drive letter:]\documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\startup directory of the Hard drive from the problem PC. The script would just press the enter key every 4 or so seconds. Put the Hard drive back in the original PC. I believe when new hardware is detected, all the prompts go through with just the 'Enter' key.

    Interesting ...
