I have a really big problem with a co-workers machine. Somehow they downloaded something and got what BitDefender calls Win32.Virtob. It has attached itself to all .exe files and I found a thread that said I should download cureit. I hooked the infected drive up as a usb drive with a device we have and was able to run the program on it. It found over 300 instances of the virus. However, the machine still would not boot.

Things have gotten progressively worse. After I ran the cureit and it said it cleared all the Viruses, I ran Super Anti-Spyware on it and went to Panda Online and ran that scan.

Convince it was ok, I put it back in the machine. If you login, you would see the blue Dell background, but nothing would happen...no icons or anything or startbar to speak of. I tried several logins and they all did the same thing. I could boot into safe mode, but as of yesterday I can't do that anymore.

I realize I need to post a hijack this log, but is there a way to do it with the hard drive hooked up as a travel drive? I don't want to lose this drive, there are a lot of programs that are going to be a real pain to get back.

So, is there anyway to figure out what has gone wrong, and why I can't boot to windows anymore.

    Locked out and frustrated

    Update!

By the way, I am using an BYTECC USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter kit to use this infected drive. I have it attached to a laptop and it is reading as drive E. Can hijack this, see drives that are attached as well? Or is there a way to target a specific drive? Re-running cure-it and all of the stuff that was supposedly cured...it's finding and curing all over again.

Please help...is there something I can download I can burn to CD to boot from or do you have any idea what could have happened? I don't know how to proceed after this scan is done. :(

    things i'm attempting

I had a thought that maybe the virus has taken over some of the main windows files, so I am running repair, in hopes that I can get back into the drive. If I can do that, then maybe I can run a hijackthis log and get it posted here. I'm not giving up this without a fight.
