    Hi,
This problem is on my husband's computer and I'll try to describe what happens.

In the morning when he turns on his computer, sometimes it takes four to five times (or more) for it to boot up. Sometimes it comes up immediately. Sometimes when he gets the computer to boot up, nothing appears on his monitor. I have switched monitors and then it comes up.

Then when I return the original monitor to his computer it comes up again.

I just don't know if it is the computer itself or the monitor is complicating things.

Does anyone have any idea of the best way to start troubleshooting this problem. He has been suffering with this start up problem for weeks now.

Also, a few times while the computer did start, it was only a few minutes and it went down.

Thank you for any help you can provide me. I was thinking of taking it to a repair shop but I'm really not sure how to explain what the problem is since it isn't always the same problem.

I would be suspicious of a hardware component getting weak. They generally fail into the following order ....
    PSU
    Memory Stick(s)
    Video card
    Mother Board.

At this point their is no simply/easy solution. It is done by swapping out the components one at a time and hoping it was the correct component.
My bet would be the PSU, which has the highest fail rate in this situation.

    Hi,

Thanks for responding to my problem. This afternoon my husband decided to take it to a computer repair shop and hopefully someone there will be able to figure out what the problem is.

If I get something satisfactory for an answer and a repair, I'll let you know.
