Can items in the "update history" that were downloaded and failed to install, be deleted? These are marked with a red check? Didn't need them anyway. If can be deleted, how do I do that.

    Hello dhac,

The MS Update history is located here:

    C:\Windows\Windows Update.log

It's a Notepad file and highlighting > delete button will get rid of a line.

I think you ought to backup the file first just in case :)

    Hey Charlesvar:

I looked in there, and I think it's to complicated for me. Some of those 8 items that didn't install were duplicates, and actually not for my computer. I was looking for something that would correspond to the KB numbers (KB928365 & etc). Thanks anyway.

Got any Ideas how to make the green progress bars work in the update page?

    Hi dhac,
When I want to see what updates my computer has, I go into the control panel, then Add/Remove programs and at or near the top there's a little white box next to "show updates "...Once I place a check mark in that spot, they appear in the Add/Remove programs...Scroll down and you will see the Microsoft Updates...From there to the best of my knowledge you can remove them...Others may say to back everything up first and others may say do a little search on Google to make sure what you wish to delete is not an important download and affect the unexpected...Your call...

    Hi Master Green,

Just to be clear here, the way to remove installed MS Update entries from Add/Remove is by deleting the $NtUninstall + KB# folder from Windows - which are Hidden files. Don't want anyone misinterperting what you wrote by using Add/Remove to uninstall updates.

    Hi Charlesvar

After deleting the $NtUninstall.... folder for an update, open Add or Remove Programs applet and then attempt to uninstall the update. Add or Remove Programs then realizes that the backup files (or the uninstall files) have already been removed.

The above paragraph is what I qurried from Google and some how I inadvertently missed what you explained and pass along my apologies to you and dhac for such...Thank you for the correction...

    Hi Guys:
I may have missed described my problem. The items I downloaded did not install. Don't show up in Add/Remove or in $NtUninstall. Only place I see them is in "Review your Update history" on the windows update page. The items with a Red Circle and X in the middle advising installation Failed. I thought since they didn't install perhaps I could clear the history out on this update page. I guess it's no biggie, one way or the other. The updates I downloaded or tried too turned out not to be for my particular computer anyway. Thanks for all the inputs.

    Hi dhac,
No you didn't :) Master Green and I got off on a tangent.

Windows Update.log is the only place that I know of that has a record of both successfull and unsuccessful updates.

Thanks Charles. Think I'll just leave that alone. Don't understand all the info in there and I might foul it up. I'll keep trying to get that update progress bars to work again.
