    Hi all.

I had a linksys wireless router, but it started needing a reboot every 30 minutes so I got a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. Worked a treat with my XBOX 360 (pc was wired to it), but it died after two weeks.

The store gave me an upgrade to a WGT624 and it is set up right but.....it transmits the signal I configured (WEP enabled with a new SSID id) and also another signal, which is much weaker with a SSID of "NETGEAR ". I have changed so it only tranmits G and still get this ghost signal which is open and I cant configure it at all.

I am sure this is not right especially as the default SSID was NETGEAR, but I changed that to my chosen name - which is the connection I am using.

Anyone heard of this before? Any ideas?

Are you sure both are comming from your router? Could there be another router down the street you're picking up? After you changed the name of your router did the weeker single name change as well?

yes that's the weird thing. First thing I thought was maybe it could be another router, but it was never there before and when I turn the router off it vanishes just the same as the router SSID I have configured.

It is definitely coming from my router as well as the main signal.....very strange and a little worrying as I can't put any security on it and it is set as open!!

Is your router still under warranty? It sounds like the circuit board is faulty. Some sort of bleed over or something. I would take it back if you still can.

    thanks for the reply.

That sounds a little worring as this is the second router from them. I don't think it has a warranty as they sell "refurbished" routers.

I guess you get what you pay for
