    Welcome to WindowsBBS happy :)

Did you notice this slowdown after installing anything in particular, or was the slowdown gradually getting worse with time? You have a number of unecessary startup items, as well as several services either unnecessary or redundant. Any one of those or combination of those may be responsible for the slowdown.

Lets use another tool that gives us a better look at things.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges to complete the following.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your desktop.
    • Close all applications and windows.
    • Double click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
    • When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.
Post the contents of main.txt only for now.

Hi! and thanks for your help. The system just seems to keep getting progressively slower. Spyware Doctor was reporting something about a "malicious action" trying to take place which would disappear. (Not sure if this was self-generated or not. As you will see by the scan I removed Wild tangent and dead spyware guard file as well as removed Avast (duplicate virus scan):(

Here is the Deckard's scan results:

    Deckard's System Scanner v20071014.68

Not much jumping out at me there. Do you notice any of your processes with higher than normal cpu usage?

Are you comfortable with editing the registry? If so, navigate to and delete the following bolded keys.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\D
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{66b9c91a-fbec-11da-8191-806d6172696f}

Not sure I recall editing registry. Do I remove only the in-bold or the in-bold and everything that follows?

    thanks:)

    Lets make it easy. ;)

    Copy the contents of the quote box below to a blank notepad. Save it to the desktop as;

    Filename: fix.reg
Save as type: All Files (*.*)

Double click fix.reg and allow it to merge with the registry.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Check the boxes to the left of:

      • Windows Temp
      • Current User Temp
      • All Users Temp
      • Temporary Internet Files
      • Prefetch
      • Java Cache
      • Recycle bin

    • The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
    • Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.
    Reboot

Is there any change in performance?

Seems to be a little faster. The spydoctor periodically reports attempts of some "malicious attempt a program is trying to make" but appears to be an HP program doing the changing. Also something to do with backweb?

    thanks

    HP does use backweb.

If you feel performance is still not up to par, lets run an online scan just to be sure we can rule out infection as the cause.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
