Here is what I do. Being that I have room on my hard drive I pick save it. I have a folder to which I have my downloads go to. Before I download I make a folder inside my download folder with the name of the download. Then I download it to that folder. Then I run my anti-virus to check the file. I also make a read-me file that I also put in that folder which tells me what the download is and any other information that I want to add. Then when I get around 700MB of downloads I back them up to a CD. Most files come as an .exe or .zip. With a .exe you just double click on and it installs. With a .zip you need a program like Winzip to open it.

I also prefer to save downloads. There are all sorts of things that can go wrong trying to run a file that's located elsewhere, possibly thousands of miles of ethernet away. If one of those things goes wrong in the middle of an install, lots more things can go wrong as a result...up to and including a computer crash. ;)

You'd do it the same way you make any other new folder....

You can right click on the desktop for example and select New->Folder.
