Record keeping software?

i have many Pc's at my company and i was wondering if there's a software program or package out there that i can use to help track what type of software is on each of my Pc's.
When a Pc crashes, sometimes not all software gets installed we sometimes forget one or two programs.

I guess what is the best way of keeping a record. Would it be easier to just create a Spreadsheet and log it that way or is there something out there.

i not familar with running a script. if i decide to use one of them how do i run a script from windows?
