in 98SE Laptop i get System_Save(D). In 98SE desktop (D).In XP 'Puter it is CD Drive (D) Is this all the same??

The File > Save As dialogue box will always default to the last drive/directory/folder that you used previously to 'Save As'. That's the way it is in Windows :)

the question/comment was about the wording/name
    plain (D) as opposed to "System_Save D "

Presumably the volume label for D:\ drive on the laptop is System_Save - is this what you see in My Computer?

Right click on the drive > Properties and name the volume what you want.

    (d)question

Go back to first post, i found this under "In Outlook Express,Inbox,File tab, Save as
It is the same in "my computer" but no rename under properties. IT appears there are 2 hard drives in laptop "C & D "
there also is an "E" listed.Under E properties there is an eject button which opens the door to what i thought was "D "
Actually this only started as a question about name, just as Pete is short for Peter and Don is short for Donald, etc.

Your laptop has one physical drive partitioned into the C:\ drive and the D:\ drive. Drive E:\ is your CD-ROM or DVD drive.

On some laptops drive D:\ is a recovery partition and may well be called System_Save, on others it is a data drive to keep your data separate from the Operating System. That name will have been given by the laptop manufacturer. I would strongly recommend that you do not change it, but if you insist ......
There is not a rename button - just highlight the volume name in the box at the top and type a new one in. (Screenshot - here drive is named Windows XP)

The Save As dialogue box is common to all programs and is not specific to OE. When you hit Save As the dialogue box appears and you navigate to the folder that you wish to save in and save. The next time you hit

As I mentioned before the Save As dialogue box will default to the last location used.

    TO PETE C
I WILL NOT RENAME IT, as long as words System Save are there i know it is
not the drive that plays cd's etc.

But i was trying to download a Sound Driver that Creative Labs sent me, i just tried it in "E" on laptop, but is says E is NOT Accessible.
with tabs retry and cancel .. i tried twice.
Actually i burned it on XP 'puter the other day, but none of 3 98SE 'puters could read it...

    So what is your question?

You laptop has a hard drive divided into two partitions C & D

The E Drive is your cd rom drive.
