Is the hard drive IDE or SATA?

If SATA, you might have to do F6 and install the SATA drivers off a floppy found on the mobo makers web site.

Most likely because Vista contains SATA drivers, whereas XP does not, hence the F6 routine and no floppy means no install :(

I just installed XP on a SATA drive with no problems. The OS was XP Pro SP2. Windows 98 would be a lost cause on a SATA drive. Since Vista worked, it seems to have been a driver problem.

The disk must be listed in your BIOS screens somewhere.
