    Hello!
I just bought a new laptop. On the old laptop I used Netscape and Netscape Mail. On the new laptop I am using Seamonkey and Seamonkey Mail. Here is my question........
How can I copy the e-mails from my old laptop using Netscape mail and paste them in the new laptop using Seamonkey. I want to be able to see / view the e-mail I have on my old laptop on my new laptop and then save them on my new laptop.
    Thanks
    Melissa
p.s after that mess I had with Norton 2008 deleting all my e-mails, not even quarentining them, I am now using AVG and it seems (so far) to be much better!

    Melissa,

To copy your Mail from the old laptop to the new:

Rename the Mail folder on the new laptop to XMail

On the old laptop zip the Mail folder, and save it to CD, or other storage media

On the new laptop, insert the CD, and copy the mail.zip file to your download folder, if you have created one, or a backup folder.

Now, right click the mail.zip file, and select the xxxxxxxx.slt folder, as the location to unzip the file.

If you had mail in the renamed Mail folder on the new laptop, then rename the Inbox file to OldInbox, or Inbox 2, then copy, and paste the renamed file into the Mail Account folder: pop.yourisp.net

Let us know if you have further questions.

Glad to hear that your experience with AVG is a positive one. It is certainly less invasive than Norton.

    THANKS RAMONA,
Took me a lot of time because I'm not as computer literate as most of you, but I can find my way and figure things out -nonetheless, your instructions worked wonderfully, I now have all my e-mails on my new laptop and took your advice from other posts and put a copy of the inbox in another folder just in case of a problem -
Where is the best place you suggest I save the copy of inbox? Right now I have it as a new file as a sub-folder of my inbox - is that not safe???? As a reference, I am now using SeaMonkey.
    Thanks
    Melissa

    Lady M.,
It is best to save backups not only outside the Mail folder, but, best, outside the Profile, altogether. And, remember that the Inbox is being updated almost continuously, so you have to do, pretty much, continuous updates.
I save my entire profile on the Desktop, or you can limit yourself to saving just the Inbox.
If something happens to the Profile, nothing is safe in it.

    Melissa,

I created a Backup folder for each of my browsers. On a daily basis, I copy the entire Profiles folder to its appropriate backup folder.

I want to clarify my answer. Melissa was doing the backup as a subfolder of the Inbox. Both Ramona and I feel that the backup should be in a special folder, outside the profile.
    I had said:
Actualy, like Ramona, I have several profiles, and 9-10 mail accounts, so backing up the entire profile is the only thing which makes sense.

    Thanks guys for the help!
Do you save your backup files on your computer somewhere (if so where) or on an external hard drive?
Can you tell I'm setting up my new laptop so I don't have the same experience in loosing a whole e-mail file again?!?!?!?
    Thanks!
    Melissa

    Melissa,
you, either create a folder (right click|new folder, and give it a name:right click|rename), anywhere you like. I keep way too many things on my Desktop, but they are in a handy location. Or you can save to an external drive.

    THANKS YOU GUYS!
I just ordered an external hard drive to have for a backup of my computer and our business web site, should have it in a few days and will be sure to save those e-mail profiles elsewhere! :D

    Hi Ramona:
I am new to this forum.

I used netscape7.2 on window XP. It happened to me very often that
some of mail are not downloaded as I tried with Netscape 7.2 mail
(as I go to ISP's webmail site, i could see those missing email).
As I set up POP server with netscape7.2 mail&news, the server name
is changed back to 127.0.0.1, even I set up to my ISP server name.
I wonder if it could be the reason some email is missing.

After saw your forum last week, I tried to use Thunderbird,
and the server setting is good now (keeping to the server name
I entered orginally), but some email still can not be
downloaded to my computer (some missing).

I hope you can give me some advise,

    Thanks,

    TT
