I own a Dell Latitude CP laptop with a swappable floppy and CD ROM drive. I ran fdisk and format C: using the boot disc. Now comes the problem. How do I swap to the CD drive for the W98SE installation? When I start the computer from the boot disc, at what point can I pull out the floppy drive and insert the CD ROM drive? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it's a Win98SE CD it should be bootable - pop in the CD drive, check in bios/setup that the boot order is CD-ROM > HardDrive and boot up.

Good news. My neighbor owns a newer Dell Latitude also with swappable drives. His however came with a cable which allows the floppy to be attached externally. I borrowed it and it worked. System is now up and running.

My thanks to all for your valuable assistance. Sorry to put everyone to so much trouble. Much appreciated. You can put this thread to bed.

Make a bootable Windows 98 disk
    Boot off of that
You may have to change the boot order in the bios to do that
The easiest way to make a bootable windows 98 disc ( if you do not have one)
is to use nero full ( not express)
Easiest way is to use a computer with both a diskette and a cd burner ( or dvd / cd burner)
If you do not have a windows 98 boot disk
    www.bootdisk.com
You cannot swap out the diskette and put the cd drive in while the laptop is running
