Actually, I can't get a command prompt to work on that hard drive. So I used the drive that came w/the new(er) computer, went to run, command to bring up the command prompt. Since my original drive is now drive f: I changes to the f:\, then cd\windows and went from there.

I'm confused tho, what is the file extension of the inf file that you want me to rename to inf.old?

Ahhh ... it won't work that way then. Do you have both hard drives attached? Have they both been attached throughout your attempts of re-installing?

While booted to the new(er) hard drive, use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to navigate to F:\Windows, right click the inf folder and rename to inf.old

The inf folder is a hidden system folder, so you need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.

Sorry for the confusion with the inf folder. Being a folder, it does not have an extension. I realize renaming to inf.old makes it appear as if it will have an extension, but it won't.

Safe to assume that it hung at 34 minutes even after renaming the inf folder? I'm out of ideas myself. The last set of logs you sent show that the installation progressed much further than the previous attempt, and I had hoped that subsequent re-tries would push it on through. :(

I would probably go for the parallel installation if you're not up for a clean format/install.

Ok, I guess I might as well go for the format and clean install.

I've got nero I can use to backup the drive, unless you know a better backup program?

    I have a double layer dvd-rw.

Thanks for all your help. Wished we could have gotten it to work!

Since you have 2 hard drives, why not copy all the data you want to keep over to the hard drive that won't be formatted? Would be much faster. ;)

Nero is as good as any. :)

Sorry I couldn't have been more help.
