A friend of mine did a reinstall of windows ME after a major crash...she had phone assistance from Dell. (maybe that's the problem lol) only part of the outlook express files are present. No icon anywhere to open OE. I have a disc with IE6 but when she tried to run it, she got the message that IE6 was already installed on her system. IE works fine...but there is no OE!! How can I help her correct this. I asked if she could uninstall IE from the control panel and she told me it was listed in add/remove but only a repair option? and that didn't fix OE.
Can you uninstall the whole thing from the control panel? if so she should be able to run my disc then???
    HELP!!

This is where OE is located by default in XP- sorry, but I don't have an ME machine to look at.
    C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe
Type msimn.exe into the run box. Does OE open?

As I recall a desktop icon is not installed by default.

OE should be found under Start > Programs - are you saying that it is not listed there?

I suggest she re-registers OE and it's library files as outlined in this article ....

An Outlook Express basic repair kit

It is not possible to uninstall IE as it is integrated into Windows.

The Outlook Express folder is there....but it is missing about half of the files that my computer shows there....including the icon to open it. I will read the link you posted and see what I can determine. Could I copy my OE files and put them in her OE folder? It just looks to me like it didn't install all the files?
    thanks
