Lately my computer has been locking up. The event viewer, under application log, lists "WMDM PMSP Service ", then "True Vector Engine" closely followed by "PerfNet ", before each lock-up. Only a reboot returns my computer to working status, ctrl-alt-del doesn't even work. Anybody know anything about this?

    Hi orndog
Do you have your service packs upt to date and installed?

    WMDM PMSP Service
This service is installed with Windows Media Player 7. If you do not use Media Player, you can disable this service. If you begin using Media Player again and functions do not work properly, set this to Manual or Automatic.

    PerfNet
Perfnet is a service that runs "generic" performance monitoring by default in Win2K. You have to disable it with a tool from M$ because you can't delete the default performance monitoring.
Try setting the "Server" service to "automatic" instead of disabled

    True Vector.....on a guess......zonealarm?

Yes, ZA, but it has not given me problems before. I have just disabled WMDM PMSP Service through msconfig (ripped from XP, gotta have it). I don't see perfnet in the list though, is it the same as "Performance Logs Al... ", I can't see the rest of the description because windows cuts it off in a window that can't be resized. I have to have the firewall as I am on a cable modem.

Oh, I have been waiting to install SP3 until this is cleared up, I have it downloaded already.

Actually, I meant just up to 2 for the service packs?

Before I get myself into really hot water, I'm going to leave this post for someone that would know about perfnet?

Yes, I have SP2. So far, no locking since disabling WMDM PMSP Service. That doesn't mean it won't happen...
