Outlook Express - Error opening some of my attachments - New Problem

I have seen a lot of posts about this topic.

I am using Outlook Express. I can open some attachments but not others. For example, .wmv files will not open from within OE. If I save the file to a folder I can double click the file and open it with the program associated with it without a problem.

Suddenly I have developed a problem with .avi files. I can double click an .avi file in a folder and it opens with the program associated with .avi, however.

I have checked my file associations and they are correct. I have even gone as far as to delete the file associations and re-create them. For some reason OE is not seeing the file associations.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you for the suggestion. Some of the suggestions could not be used because I am not using IE. I am using Firefox as my browser with OE as my email client.

Even completely removing file associations and then re-creating them is not making the difference with OE. I have no problem with the files when they are anyplace other than OE.

Apparently this is not an uncommon problem, yet the fix seems to be somewhat elusive.
