    Hi,

I am having trouble with my UPS...after sometime the PC is on the UPS beeps as if the electricity went off, however when i restart the PC everything gets back to normal. Same thing happens with another PC. Does this mean that the UPS is not functioning properly?

    Thanks and regards

    Alan

How old is it? Usually around 5 years the battery starts to weaken depending on how often it has been called upon during power failures. I am getting ready to change mine.

My company moved to a new office a few months ago. I can't use my two UPS's because the electricity in the new building fluctuates just enough to trigger the alarm.

As Whiskeyman said, the battery is probably going. I'd sure like to get 5 years out of a battery but that's wishful thinking with all the storms and outages we have down here. If you want to test this out, just pull the plug on your UPS out of the wall and see if you stay powered up and for how long. No, this really isn't good for your computer but its the same thing that is going to happen in a real power outage.

You'll also find that fluctuations in line voltage will cause some hiccups just as Steve's new office has evidenced. I have one printer that draws enough juice coming out of power saving mode to cause this in my office at home. Unfortunately, all the outlets in my office are on the same 15amp circuit and that circuit is pushed to its limit.

Personally, I'd replace the battery in your UPS or buy a new one.

    ;)
