I am now using Windows mail on Vista Home Premium but I had the same problem with Outlook Express on a Windows XP machine.

When I am traveling and log on through a Wi-Fi provider, Windows Mail will always download my mail. Only once in several years has it actually uploaded my mail. The program works perfectly at home.

I have verified my settings and they are correct.

    I always get this message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Re: Encampment', Account: 'mail.charter.net', Server: 'mail.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

    Thank you

    Hi,

    Welcome to WindowsBBS.

This has been addressed many times in this forum. The answer is that many ISP's do not allow you to use any other SMTP server than theirs. I know from experience that Charter is one of those ISP's that won't allow you to use an other SMTP server.

    Thank you

Thank you, I was afraid of that.

For the record I tried a search but could not find an on point answer.
