Hi. I've noticed that the automated emails generated by the WBBS server to advise me that someone has replied to my thread get shunted into my Unwanted Mail inbox (I'm running Outlook 2000 SP3). Fortunately I check my "unwanted mail" every now and then. And when I'm online anyway, I hear the "bing" of an incoming mail, and when it's not in my regular inbox I usually find it in the "unwanted" one.

Has anybody ever discovered whether there's a keyword in these messages which triggers Outlook to classify them as unwanted? (And, if so, why it hasn't been removed/replaced...)

I know Microsoft has a bizarre notion of what constitutes probably unsolicited emails. A friend of mine running a cultural association was worried because his monthly newsletters weren't reaching several members. I spent hours checking it out for him, until I found that the innocent phrase "Dear friend" (with which he started every newsletter) was on Outlook's list of no-nos - once he dropped it, delivery rates promptly seemed to revert to 100% (or, at least, he had no more complaints). So I'm wondering if something like this is the problem with WBBS's emails.

I've been using Outlook for years and have never seen it automatically make mail as unwanted...The only ones it does mark are the ones I told it too...

Right click in the mail->Junk mail and select Add to Safe Sender List.

Sorry, Steve - I should have replied to this much sooner...

I couldn't find the option you mentioned
but I created a Rule to move all incoming emails from WBBS into my normal Inbox, and that worked fine.

As for automatically classifying mail as "unwanted ", there's a file called filters.txt which contains a lot of parameters (including strings of text in the Subject line or in the body of the message) which, if met, shunt the email into the Unwanted box. You can edit this file to your heart's content if you don't share Microsoft's views on what's kosher and what's not.

But in general I find it reassuring to check and empty the Unwanted box every couple of weeks, just in case...
