    Broni back to post 35
I set mine as yours, except 'save folder footers not on mine.
I click save to disk and a box opens marked Print directory to file
    in window PrnDirfile
    File Filters
    print job
    save job
    and at bottom
    file name DirPrt
    save as text file txt*
if i click save, it sends message Karens is already installed, do you wish to overwrite it?
NOTE I printed E, got blank page except for header Karens, etc. Vol M09
i decioded to switch to D and got 21 pages of stuff printed in a 1 inch wide column at left (paper was already used on other side)

What letter is assigned to your CD drive? That is the letter you would highlight while the driver disk is in the drive. Also try using WinAudit as I outlined previously to see what modem you have.

Having a Motorola chipset, I expect it to be a Motorola dial-up modem (I didn't have much success websearching for those model numbers).

These drivers would probably fit the bill:
    http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm
[EDIT: use My Computer or Windows Explorer to see if they match driver files on the disk that came with the card]

You will need to find a way to transfer the download to the Win 98 computer, burn them on a CD or use a USB flash/micro drive .

Uninstall/remove the current modem in Control Panel -> Modems. I don't expect there will be any modem software left in Add/Remove Programs.

Extract the files from the download. I usually make a folder for drivers C:\Drivers\Modem\Motorola for example. Look through the files and find instructions as I mentioned before. You may need to take the card out of the computer, install the drivers/software then replace the card.

If the drivers turn out to be the wrong ones, you will need to uninstall before you try the next ones.

    Good luck.

    Matt
PS If you need to direct the New Hardware Wizard to the driver files, navigating is a little tricky. If the New Hardware Wizard opens at, say C:\Windows\System, you will need to double click on the C: heading, then bore down through Drivers -> Modems -> Motorola. I think you are getting the hang of this though.
[When the NHW comes across an .inf file, the OK button changes from greyed out to solid, BUT, it does not mean that the .inf file it has found is the correct one for your hardware. Sometimes it is a matter of "Try it and see ".]

i noticed it is a zip file. my wife has a zip drive, hmmmm.

A zip file is a type of compressed file, a Zip drive is a type of drive system, no relationship, but yes, if it is external Zip drive it would be a good method to transfer the large file.

You would need to have a program on the Win 98 computer to decompress the zip file. Win XP has one, but Win 98 does not. If the Win 98 computer does have something like Winzip, you could get Freezip or 7Zip (Winzip is no longer a freeware program). The computer will need a file compression/decompression program in the future anyway. You could decompress the zip file on the Win XP computer, then transfer them.

    THANKS A BUNCH
to Whiskeyman, Mattman, Steven R Jones, or anyone else.......BUT even drivers on Motorola website did not work, tried 5 of them.
The wife took it to a retired gentleman who fixes 'puters and donates them to Poor People.
I will update later if/when fixed......

Whiskeyman, seems to be one hour out, 4.55am or I would be late for work :) Maybe "Daylight Saving" involved.

MIR11, I don't want to be a doom-sayer, but if the modem is a "Winmodem" (a software modem rather than a hardware modem), you may find the installation "difficult" [Edit: may depend on what modems were installed previously].

    TO ALL :
My wife finally took over project (it is her friend's 'puter)
after a 29 minute cell phone call to PeoplePC it is now working.
she must have got a level two technician, who had her go into control panel/internet options and make a number of changes//
I had called them many times and did not get the right answer.
The part i found Weird is they use PeoplePC ( a paid for ISP) to go to Free Juno website?? and e-mail
why not use O.E. as maby others do?? or People pc that you are paying for??

    Ahh, finally :)

Out of curiosity, if you go to Control Panel -> Modems, what is the listing/description of the modem now? (Another place to check is in Device Manager.) You should make a note of which drivers it is using because if there seems to be a hiccup or reinstall required in the future, those are the drivers you will need to install.

I would also make note of the connection settings in Internet Options.

Make a note on both the friend's computer and yours so that you have a backup and won't be lost ;)

I WROTE IT ON PAPER MOTOROLA SM56 SPEAKERPHONE MODEM
    DEVICE ID WDM\MOT8888\WDMM DMO

You are right should have made notes but didn't, just wanted to get it home, but sooner or later it will breakdown again, and when call anyone at PeoplePC ask for second or next level tech.
We used to have Bell Telephone DSL, and if you asked they put higher level on right away..in fact i have name and e~mail and phone number of a third level Bell Tech. in this 'puter address book
