Using SEARCH I looked for a particular file. I knew this particular file was in the computer. The SEARCH program did not find it.
I found it by wandering through WINDOWS EXPLORER. The file was in a subfolder
6 folders deep. The "look in sub-folders" had been selected in the SEARCH options.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this WINDOSWS XP "SEARCH" program?

What is the name of the file and where is it located? What did you type when you searched?

Did you use the Advanced Options in search?

It is not one of the best applets in Windows and has it's failings as you have found out. I dumped it years ago in favour of Agent Ransack - a very powerful freeware search facility and now use the Pro version exclusively.

I used the ADVANCED options. The file was located in
    c:\Documents and Settings\David L. Favin\
    Application Data\UleadSystems\ULeadDVDMovieFactory\6\

    File name VIOFMT.dat

I downloaded the Agent Ransack and MAN!!!! did it ever find that file. In a blink of the eye it located it. Thanks for that really great suggestion. Anybody else reading this should try your suggested site. It is great.
