    Catchy title I hope :)

    Here's the situtation;

I added some drives and the name does NOT reflect in MY Network Places. For example:

Drive G on Media System was originally called "Music-TV" and was replaced with another drive labeled "Anime3 "

Now as a Mapped Drive in My Computer it showes as "Anime3 ", but in My Network Places it showes as "Music-TV "

How can I get XP to show the new name in My Network Places?

Once I get it fixed, I can go to the other7 computers on the network and fix it in them as well.

    TIA for the help!!!

p.s. The other post on the slow window explorer fixed itself after 24 hrs and I have no idea how, but it is no longer slow...

Go to the pc where Anime3 is. Right click on the drive or folder->Properties->Sharing tab->and look at the "share name. "

    Shared name = Anime3

I made a slight mistake... sorry...

What the problem is that Anime3 AND Music-TV both show. Both as drive G. If you click on Music-TV, the contents is that the same as Anime3.

I guess the problem is getting rid of the name Music-TV for drive G on all the computers.

(Bet I really confused the issue here  )

Is this mapping going to a Drive or a folder on a drive?

Guess it almost doesn't matter. When sitting at the Anime3 three pc and looking at Win Explorer->What is the name of the drive?

Is the Name of the PC called Music-TV by any chance?

It is called Anime3 and Music-TV does not show. Only on the other computers does Music-TV show.

It is like Music-TV is a ghost that can't be deleted my normal methods...

The names of previously mapped drives are in the registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Network\Persistent Connections]
You can delete the values that you no longer need.

    ???

Using textedit all that is listed in the Saved Connections is:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Network\Persistent Connections]
    "SaveConnections "= "yes "

What is there to edit? Change yes to no? Delete the reg entry?

The [Defallt] has the same info.

    Really confused now...

    What I would do:
    1. go to all comps and unshare all shares & remove all mapped drives..
    2. reboot all comps.
    3. setup shares on each comp.
    4. reboot all comps.
    5. map shares as desired.

If the above does not work then that means Windows has cached share names and mapped drive names and is using those cached names rather than the newly created names, or that one failed to remove all pointers to shares/mapped drives as well as any permissions applied to them.

Remember, after a reboot, it can take minutes until all networked comps show up in Network Places because each comp has to send out netbios streams that "search for shares" and say "here I am ".

Sorry for delay in getting back. That did not work, even on the computers that do not have mapped drives. I wonder just what it is in My Network Places that is causing this...
