    I am using a standalone XP machine.

    I created a scheduled task to shutdown and restart the computer. I wrote a simple batch file and it works well. However I have to put in a password(it does not accept a blank password) for the scheduled task to work. Fine, so i amended my user account to have a password. Now the scheduled task works. When the batch file runs it will restart the computer but it arrives at the login screen expecting me to enter a password when i most of the time i will not be there. I have a software that i need to run on the computer 24/7 but need to restart the computer at some point in time.

    Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Alan :)

    I use a freeware app called Auto Shutdown 2.1 that will shutdown/reboot. It doesn't require a password.....There are tons of similar free apps...Finding one for Vista might be harder but sure would solve the problem.

    Hi Steve,

    Sorry to bother you again. I installed the Auto shutdown 2.1 and it works fine, however when the reboot completes the schedule is lost. Do you have any idea if may be i can set the schedule once and for all. I asked the software provider but did not get a reply yet.

    Thanks & Regards

    Options Button->Load Program at Startup

    Schedule->Select the time and Everyday in the dropdown menu.

    Can try creating a shortcut to the application and place it in the:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder.
