I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I didn't see anywhere it was covered. First, I know this is an old program, but it's all I have at the moment. I am trying to use Publisher 97 to make some business cards for a church related project. I have made the cards, but now I would like to put some text on the back side. The text would be different on all ten cards on the sheet. All I can find is a way to put the same text on the back of all of the cards, but that is not what I need. Is there any way to do this? I used to do it with Word Perfect, but I don't have that program any more. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My approach to this would be one .pub file for the front side, another for the back side. Put the back text into a text box for each card. Print the first file, turn the card over and print the second.

Thanks for the reply PeteC. However to make a business card in Publisher ( at least in this version) it only allows you to make one card and then puts that information on all ten cards on the sheet when you print. I haven't been able to find out how to make the program print a different file on each card on the sheet, either front or back. That is the way I had done it before in Word Perfect.

    Further thoughts ....

You want a sheet of 10 cards - same lettering, etc on the front, but different text on the reverse of each card.

Set up the 10 cards with the front design and print.

Open a new blank Publisher file and insert 10 text boxes of the same size as the cards - type the required text into each text box and print out on the reverse side of card page already printed.

I know what you mean about Word Perfect - I have that loaded purely for the label facility, which, as you say, allows different text and formatting on each label. Unless things have changed this cannot be done in Word.

    MS Publisher

(Open a new blank Publisher file and insert 10 text boxes of the same size as the cards )

The program will not let me do that. At least I haven't found out how yet.

It only offers one text message to print on all ten cards or one text message to print in the middle of the page to be take to a commercial printer.

    Thanks again.

I am nothing if not persistent :)

Unless I have the wrong end of the stick completely I am suggesting a new, blank Publisher sheet into which you insert 10 text boxes (screenshot Pub 2003) - specify nothing for the reverse of the card sheet with the front text filled in.

Print out the single sided cards - then reinsert the paper/card into the printer and print out the page with the text boxes containing the text of your choice on the reverse side. Even a commercial printer should be able to cope with that :)

I appreciate your persistance, but the program will not let me do what you suggest.
(It only offers one text message to print on all ten cards or one text message to print in the middle of the page to be take to a commercial printer.)

The newer version of Publisher may allow that operation, but this is the 1997 Version. It will not allow me to make ten text messages. Only "one" which is distributed to all ten cards by the program.

Without a copy of Publisher 97 I can't really pursue this any further - sorry.

For jobs like this, I've used Avery free software (Download install program), which installs into WORD. Open WORD, click on the Avery icon, choose your label type and the program provides all the required tools ... art/import your art along with full text editing.... including fill (1) card, allow auto-fill to complete the balance or click on EACH card and create (10) unique information per card.
-(OR)- choose Avery ONLINE - provides all of the above with no install.
No Install - Online Version (Preview)
No Install - Online Version (Run)

    TIPS
Choose 2x sided Business cards - A standard Business card is 2 "x 3.5" by 10 cards per page.
    Choose - "Back side "
    UN-tick AutoFill.
Choose / click on card #1, then click on +ZOOM, now edit. When done, click on -ZOOM click on card #2, edit ... repeat for balance of cards. Print/test on standard 8.5 x 11 paper to check for proper alignment. You can "Save" your work file locally and return to same site and print additional cards.

Thanks for all of your advice. PeteC, I understand that it is hard to answer a question about a program that you don't have a copy of. Thanks for all of your efforts.
DennisL, I'll try the Avery program and see what happens. I'll report back with my results.
Thanks again to all for the assistance. People like you make this board a great place!

    Re: MS Publisher

Well, I tried the Avery program suggested by Dennis L. This is a good program for what I wanted and probably much more. My problem was solved with this program.
Thanks to all who replied to my post.
    Keep up the good work!

Hey Wayne, that's good to know as I own my own restaurant and use Publisher to do all my menus, flyers that I mass mail, business cards and gift cards.

I guess this is a good alternative especially if you are off site and need to do something quickly.

    Glad you posted!!

I'm glad it worked out for you. Avery provides a nice program and free is always good. Did you download/install or use the online?
