    Need Help!! Updated my Audigy Sound S/W via 'recommended' Microsoft Update (WIN XP on Gateway 500x PC) .... now have NO AUDIO!!! I violated my basic tenet: '..if it ain't broke, don't fix it'... tried everything (I think) to restore sound... CD's that came w/ PC, deleted/reinstalled audio s/w, including 'roll-back'... NO JOY!! this is the first & LAST time I'll use 'Hardware Update' for my PC!! any suggestions?? tx

    Hello jammer,

    Did you try a System Restore? Or is that what you meant by 'roll-back'.

    I suggest you boot into Safe Mode, go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any audio related software (the Creative audio manager). Go to Device Manager and uninstall everything under the sound heading (legacy devices, joystick controllers, etc), except if it does not relate specifically to audio (you could probably leave the CODECS).

    I would then shut down and remove the card.

    When you boot back into normal Windows look at the driver/software installation instructions and treat it as a brand new installation of the card.

    Tx for the responses.... To make a long story short, I ultimately deleted 'Creative Player' manually from all locations... deleted 'sbAudigy' manually... selected 'install new hdwe' from Control Panel... sound returned as before the 'update'....
    Two morals: 1) DON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKE;
    b) KEEP TRACK OF YOUR SYSTEM STATUS/WHAT YOU DID, AT ALL TIMES... Sys Restore/ Roll Back updates may not work ( in my case they DIDN'T)...
