Hope I posted this thread in the right place. Media Player 9 stopped playing avi files. If I go to play an avi file, the following error message appears: "Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows ". This only applies to avi files. I have no other media player or devices installed. This is what I have attempted so far with no success:

    1. Uninstall/reinstall Media Player 9.
    2. Went to Windows Update and downloaded all updates and hotfixes.
    3. Downloaded the latest version of direct-x.
    4. Did a repair of Internet Explorer.
    5. Ran chkdsk. No errors.
    6. Ran all my spyware and cleanup programs.

I am really stuck and have run out of options. If someone can bail me out here I will be truly grateful. Thank you.

The problem was more serious than I thought. Had to run a Windows 2000 repair. Back to normal. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please close this thread.
