After running Microsoft's CleanSpooler.exe tool, I have lost all the printers installed (as should be) however, I am now unable to install simple printer connected through the USB port, the "dot4usb" is missing in the port selection. I have not been able to find it on the internet or MS web site either. Called HP and they tell me to call MS. Unfortunately I do not have another 3 hours to spend on the phone. (Maybe tomorrow, but not now).

Has anyone else experienced this and/or have fix?

With the USB printers I have installed, you need to connect the printer when the driver installation program tells you to do so. Your system will already have the drivers (or most of the drivers) already installed.

Have you tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it? (Use Safely Remove Hardware or shutdown the machine).

I won't go into resetting the drivers, I would not know what CleanSpooler.exe might have done.

    installed but still error printing

The 1320 printer finally installed with a dot4_002 port. It still does not print. I received the error. Troubleshooter leads to dead end. Other networked HP printers finally installed and am printing on those. Installed the 1320 onto another computer fine. Repaired o/s, still not printing. scanned w/all known tools for junk, still not printing.

Any suggestions other than ordering a new printer?...

Here is some of the troubleshooting information at HP:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=410622&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00230659
    Software problems.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...skId=110&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=410622
    General troubleshooting.

    I would uninstall the software
    and/or disconnect it.

I would go to the Printers folder in Control Panel and if there were any listings for the 1320, right-click on them and select Delete. (If it asks about removing shared files, I would say Yes).

    Run the installation program

    Finally Successful

Thank you for the advise. I was trying to avoid installing the "toolbox" feature which is useless for me. I choose "minimal" installation from the cd software and now have my printer back. I also moved the USB connection on the pc to another port. DOT4_002 still exists in the printer properties though. I'm still a little confused but up and working again.

have you tried a system restore ?
Check to see the service such as spooling is turned on
You might want to reset so that all the services are running
