    Hello

Im hoping someone can help me.

Please let me start off by saying that I read The Truth About VMM32.VXD
A HelpWithWindows TechFile By Roy Lehrer
and it was so way over my head that I came out even more clueless than when I went in.

I have an old IBM Aptiva (2187) that runs Windows 98. I havent used it in years, and I wanted to get rid of it, so I offered it to a neighbour so her kids could use it.

I thought I would do the right thing and put in the red recovery disk that came with the computer, and get all my old stuff off it.

When I bought the computer, it came with everything already on it. I just had to take it home and plug it in and it started up and off I went! I had no Windows disk or anything of the sort. Just the red IBM Aptiva recovery disk. When you put that disk in, everything gets erased and it loads itself back up again.

However, this time around Ive come across this error.

VMM32.VXD is required to run windows.
If this file is not in your PATH, you may need to reinstall windows.

    C:\>

Ive never seen this before, and of course Windows just wont start. It just stays there at that black screen.

Is there an easy way to fix this? Ive searched all over the internet for a 'blonde way' and there doesnt seem to be a way that I can understand.

Its all so over my head. But I really want to give this computer to this family, they cant afford to buy one, and my horrid old machine is giving me drama.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.
