This is a problem I have ignored for far too long. For a couple of years now, I have been unable to use the system recovery tool. When I choose a previous set point, the system goes through all the motions of recovery, but when it restarts window, I get the message " unable to restore system, choose a different set point." It doesn't matter if it is a recovery point I created, or one the system generated. So I choose a different point, with the same result, always.

So far I have been lucky, and been able to locate and edit problems out of the registry manually, but I know that sooner or later my luck will run out. Any ideas on what I can do to make the recovery process work again? I have no idea what event precipitated this problem.

Windows XP home, service pack 2

    Thanks

    System Restore service

Is the System Restore service On and Monitoring? If so how much space is it reserving?

Every chance that the System Restore file(s) is/are corrupted ......

Right click My Computer icon > Properties > System Restore and move the slider to zero - reboot and reset the slider.

Then go to Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and set a manual restore point.
