Netscape 7.2 outgoing server settings

We recently changed to onlymyemail for spam controls and it is great--but, since then, none of our bounced emails come back. Apparently, it is because my outgoing smtp (which is att.yahoo) doesn't line up with my email address, which is not an att address but one through my hosting service. My host wants me to change the settings in Netscape away from 'use same settings as my incoming mail server' to 'log on using' and then put in my att account info, but I can't find a place in the mail and newsgroup properties to make any of these changes to outgoing servers. Ideas?

 

I am not sure what your ISP wants you to do. Typically, a POP account has incoming coming through port 110, while outgoing (SMTP) is set to use port 25, by default. So, it is not a case of using the same settings.
I did a Search, and found what I expected, i.e. that yahoo not only makes it difficult to use their mail, but, also uses terminology which applies to Microsoft-type mail, and not Netscape.

 

Netscape VS Outlook Express

We connect to the internet thru att.yahoo so that is the current outgoing smtp but we are not using the traditional yahoo mail. In Outlook express, you can make modifications to the outgoing server settings (tools/accounts, properties, servers, settings) so that you can change 'use same settings as incoming server' and 'log on using' a different smtp setting. In Netscape 7.2, I can not find any place to make any changes to the smtp that is more advanced than just entering in the password and smtp address.

We are trying to modify the smtp settings so that the outgoing server knows to bounce mail back to the email address that I use--and this address is not a att.net address. Since they are different, the bounced mail just disappears. Thanks!

 

You can make your changes in NS7.2, in mail and newsgroups|outgoing mail. One problem is that Netscape does a good job of hiding the locations. I suggest that you click on the Advanced button, and Add the new smtp. It should look exactly as in OE. And, then there is one more step. When you go to your account server settings, again, there is that dumb Advanced button. Prior to the creation of the new smtp you had only the port 25 item. Now, you will have two possible ports. Select the new one, and you are in business.
