All of my desktop shortcuts open "minimized ", no matter what I do. I always close them in the maximized setting, but when I re-open using the shortcut they always are minimized again.

Driving me nuts....thanks for any help!!!!!

If you try Broni's suggestion and it doesn't work, I hate to keep blaming malware for odd things like these but ... I would suspect some type of spyware/malware/adware running too.

Post back here when you find out, or if you don't find out, what the problem was.

I did that, and it didn't work. Also followed some instructions that our IT director at work provided me with, and they didn't work either. He simulated the problem I am having on his system, also running XP, and it fixed the problem on his system, but not mine.

Curiously, Internet explorer will open full screen, but any desktop shortcuts that direct my system to a web page open minimized, no matter what I do.

So how do I check for spyware, malware, etc??

As it says in my link, some applications will override your manual settings.
    Why? I don't know.
Windows Explorer, for instance, has been a notorious "criminal" for years (if I remember correctly, going back to Windows 95).
Why M$ is not able to fix it, it beats me.

Oh, they will help me fix it, as long as I pay $59 for an online chat or return e mail.

Oh well. I guess I'll live with it for now, not paying Uncle Bill a dime.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help, this is a great forum. Very informative.

Hi, This may work , it did for me, ( you may have tried it?)
Pete C sent this fix as I had the same problem.

Open the link / Make a duplicate copy (use Control+N)
Then drag it to fullsize / Close the first copy/
Then close the second enlarged copy by using/
File / Exit, while holding down the shift key.
    Worked a treat for me.
    Cheers Des.:)
