    I have a fairly new setup that keeps crashing (probably twice a day under heavy use). Most often crashes during shutdown, but last crash was during normal use (gaming). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Specs:
    Windows XP Pro (all patches)
    Intel P35 Chipset
    Intel Pentium D 820
    DDR2 800Mhz
    GeForce 7900GTO
    Soundblaster Live 5.1
    Using integrated Intel Raid1
    Avast Personal Anti-Virus

    All drivers current.

    Here is the Microsoft debugger output:

    *******************************************************************************
    * *
    * Bugcheck Analysis *
    * *
    *******************************************************************************

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
    An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
    interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
    caused by drivers using improper addresses.
    If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 00000000, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000001, bitfield :

    bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
    Arg4: 80534e95, address which referenced memory

    This section of your bug report points to a driver problem, or memory problem.

    If this is a vendor's PC still under warranty you could try calling them first. If you are here because the vendor just won't cut it for you or it is home built, then I will ask...When did this start happening?

    Was there something different that was done to the PC just before the crashses started?

    Try reloading drivers or downloading updated drivers.

    One other thing...may not even be an issue since your PC might be pretty new. I have a PC I built a number of years ago that would lock up the PC occasionally but more so when gaming with heavy 3-d graphics. I looked at my video card and felt one of the chips was really hot. I cut up an old heat sink to make it fit it on to the hot processor chip and that fixed the problem for good.

    bnt - Welcome to the Board :)

    We may get a bit more from your dump data if you run it through our Dump Data Collection Tool .....

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=33471

    Please note ....

    Unfortunately these logs require expert knowledge to analyze and there are only 2 members (who occasionally visit WindowsBBS.com) that have the depth of knowledge necessary. Other members can make observations and suggestions as to how you might proceed toward finding the cause ....

    Update your drivers. This last one is caused by your sound driver.

    Right you are. Updated Sound Drivers (went from Microsoft-supplied to Creative Labs-supplied, despite them being older) and not a crash since. We'll see how it goes for the next few days...

    Thanks!

    As a general rule avoid drivers posted through Windows Update - always update from the manufacturer's web site.
