I need to reinstall media player in Windows XP Pro. I cannnot figure out how to do it. If you go to microsoft.com and look it up it just says "If you have Windows XP you do not need to download any files." I accidently installed Windows Media Player 9 to find out it isn't released. I can't go back to whatever version came with Windows XP like I want to. If I delete the files from program files\windows media player the files just get recreated (and it says something about important OS files.) The problem with v9 of WMP is that I can't play files w/ any video acceleration. I must turn it off to play any file, and when it's off, I can't watch things full screen. To do so, I must start the video, turn on video acceleration, then stop the video, and restart it to play it fullscreen, and I must do that for each video. So, does anybody know how to reinstall WMP of WinXP? Or how to fix v9?

    BEWARD OF BETAS!!!

    Having said that try this:

    Control Panel
    Add or remove programs
    Add/Remove windows components
Remove check from WMP( should be near the bottom)
    Follow instructions, then reboot.

Go back and add the check and follow instructions.
You will probably need the WIN XP disc.

Good luck and post back please:

    Not there

I don't have WMP listed in the Windows Components/ Add/Remove Programs. In Windows Components I have:

    Accessories and Utilities
    Fax Services
    Indexing Service
    Internet Explorer
    Internet Information Services
    Management and Monitoring Tools
    Message Queuing
    MSN Explorer
    Networking Services
Other Network File and Print Services
    Update Root Certificates

and that's it. It's not under accessories either.
    thx for the help, tho
