    Hello all!

I have been concerned about reinstalling my trusted old Norton products of year 2003 vintage. I have Norton SystemWorks 2003 and I use the utilities from time to time and of course, Norton Ghost 2003. Especially Ghost needs updating to the final release but until recently, nothing on LiveUpdate.

Over at RADIFIED FORUMS, Ghost 2003 compatibility with Vista has been discussed and in that thread, a jewel was revealed: Symantec Archive Server. Maybe this is old news but this is how to get access:

How to obtain the programs updates that are archived on Symantec LiveUpdate server

A bit more difficult than it need to be but in short:

1: Verify that the installed version of LiveUpdate is 3.0 or later. If not, download and install the most recent version (currently 3.2.0.67 but up to and including 3.0.0.177 maintains support for Win98/ME)

2: Right-click and save Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate as "Settings.Hosts.LiveUpdate" (all files, not text document) to C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\

3: Restart the system and you can now choose between "Live" and "Archive" when running a manual session. (Make sure that you set it back to "Live" when you are done at the "Archive" for Automatic LiveUpdate to work properly ... ... I think.)

I did a test install of Ghost 2003 and it got updated just fine ... :) ... !

Hi Christer, I got to number 4, but after that it ask me to download the fix tool again. I saved the "setting host liveupdate" to my desk top, but that is as far I can get. When I start on number 4 it goes to download the same tool. Any ideas? thanks

    Hi voltigeur,
    welcome to Windows BBS ... :) ... !

I assume that you followed the instructions on the Symantec site when you "got to number 4 ", right?

It is important to save the hosts file under the correct name, saved as "all files" without a *.txt extension, in the correct directory.

Have you tried following my directions?

Hi Christer, I have that problem solved. I did not realize that I had to use the Live update from Norton system works and started instead with number 1 of the 4 th. section. Could you give me some simple steps on how to make a mirror image on a external HHD?
One more question to all, I have Partion Magic 8.0, but here again, I need some simple steps to Partition this external HHD of 320 GB. Due to an accident, I have a serious short term memory and have difficulty following the instruction books. Too much information for me to handle. Thanks

That's what made me suspicious. The file does no good on the desktop. It has to go into the correct folder.

    Good news!

A tip: I have created a shortcut to LUALL.EXE and put it in the Quick Launch area. Now, running LiveUpdate is a "two-click-operation ".

May I suggest that you create two separate threads for these questions in the "Other Software" forum. It will make the discussions easier to follow.
