While surfing today I got a pop-up from Norton anti-virus saying that the Bloodhound.exploit.39 had been detected. I tried to open NAV to do a scan but was unable to do so. I downloaded AVG and did a scan with that. It said that an infected file (a Word Document, unexplainably 'Password Protected' - not by me!) had been quarantined. I decided to use System Restore but the program wouldn't open - just a large empty box. I then restarted the computer but got the following: The Dell logo appeared, followed by the usual lines of script down to 'Press Control - 1 to enter configuration utility'. This was followed by the narrow www.dell.com bar, under which was the following script: Loading PBR for descriptor 2 - done.
Then, finally, TRAP 00000005 -----EXCEPTION, followed by six lines of script .....and that's as far as it went.

I read during a search of this forum that this may be a damaged NTLDR file if I was using Win 2000. I'm using Win XP Media Edition. I tried to reboot using the re-installation dvd supplied with my system, but it just ignored it and followed the above process. Would anyone have any idea why I can't reboot using the re-installation dvd, or be able to make any suggestions, please?

    Thank you. :(

"Press any key to boot from CD "
    Did you do it?

Good news! Using Dell PC Restore by Symantec, with the aid of Symantec Ghost 10, I was able to restore my pc to the state it was in five days ago. I didn't realise that I had this facility installed until I found the instruction sheet while searching through my disks. It was as easy as 1-2-3.

    Whoopee :D
