Okay -- Here's the error I get when I try to run Broderbund's "The Print Shop ":

PROGRAM ERROR: The following error occurred while attempting to verify the maximum number of users allowed by the program:

    Error Number 5
    Description: Access is denied.

Now.. before you ask: I tried the tech support at Broderbund, the help center and knowledge base at Microsoft, and a few other things... I tried reinstalling it... Nothing..

Keep in mind that it USED to work; only a few days ago, I used the program and everything worked just fine.. I haven't installed anything new, I haven't changed any system settings, etc. etc.

Also -- I only have one user account on this computer (mine) and the guest account is NOT active.. So what's with the "verifying max users" error?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Don

Have you got a lot of programs loaded or loading up in the background at startup?

Reading on the Broderbund site some error messages can arise from low system resources. So if you were running a PC with say only 128mb RAM with Windows XP you could quickly run out of memory.

If I can locate anything more on your rresponse I will come back and add extra comments.

Thanks for the reply, but no.. I don't have much at all loading at startup.. And I have 256MB of RAM, so that's probably not an issue... And since it did work only a short time ago, I would assume it's some sharing error or something in XP, not in the program itself.

If it just started happening? What about using one of your restore points?

It's possible something new was installed without your knowing it...if you have "Enable install on demand (Internet Explorer" and "Enable install on demand (other)" checked in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced.

In addition, Broderbund software always wants to install "Brodcast" which, no matter what they say, is spyware. You have to use their removal tool to get rid of it. You can get the removal tool Here . It might have downloaded something without your knowledge that messed things up.

It also uses a LOT of CPU cycles. You can read up on it (it's also called DSSAgent) Here

So check Add/Remove programs for anything new, check Task Manager to see what's running in the background and shut down what you don't need, clean Brodcast off your system, run AdAware to made sure everything's gone and see if the problem is resolved.

Hey, if it doesn't work, you've at least got all the nasties killed off and you've had something to do while HumBug is looking for more info to help you. ;)
