I want to clear out most of the unchecked items in MSCONFIG Startup. A lot of unchecked items are from long ago deleted apps and a few from killed viruses, as well as a few duplications.

I know this is cosmetic, but how do I do it? I did a search and can't find an answer.

Part 2 is how do I ADD an app to startup in this list? Doing all the usual "startup" steps does not add the one app I really want to see come up at boot.

    Sorry for not getting back.

Yes & no. It cleaned up the unchecked items as promised, but there is no way to add a startup item, which was part 2 of my original post.

You can't add startup programs through msconfig.
This is, how you do it.

You can also use Startup Control Panel freebie to add/remove startups, or remove unneeded entries.
