I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 with Windows Vista Home Premium. When I manually put it in sleep mode and return, the keyboard is inoperative. I have to mouse my way into control panel, then keyboard. I can go thru the motions of making changes without actually making those changes. Just something to activate the "Apply" button. As soon as I "Apply ", all is ok.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello Ol Man,

Have you looked in the Event Viewer after one of these incidents?

Type Event Viewer into the start button search area > App/Service Logs > Hardware Events.

No I haven't. Do they stay in the log? If so, it obviously didn't get recorded as the log is empty.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hi,
I don't want to distract you from charlesvar's suggestions.

I just wonder why, after you click Apply, the setting is not saved before the next occurrence. Does it happen after restarting or can it occur after every sleep mode without powering the machine off?

Laptops usually have software programs that control the features for mouse/touchpad, keyboard, etc. Check in the Notification Tray or in the list of All Programs. These settings probably override Windows settings.

The way you bring the system out of sleep mode may have an influence. This should be covered in the User's Guide.

Just some areas you may want to check.

    Matt

    Hello Matt,
My problem seems to appear after I "manually" set it to sleep mode (Start/sleep). In that situation, I have to push the Power button to revive it. When it sleeps on its own, the mouse or keypad will revive it. The problem has never occurred after a restart. I will check the areas you suggest. Thank you for your reply.
