Can WMP play a copy of a DVD video?

I don't really know much about Windows Media Player. I have a DVD with several short videos on it. Each video has a .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB file associated with it. I can click on the .IFO or the .VOB files when they are on the DVD, and Windows Media Player plays the video segment just fine.

But if I copy these files to my disk, then WMP won't play them. I am fairly sure that these files are not copyrighted and doubt that they have any form of copy protection. Why won't WMP play them, and is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I think, you have to BURN those videos, not copy them.
    What OS are you using?

It's plain old Windows XP SP2 fully updated. Windows Media Player is version 10.

Anything else I can do to make it play from the hard disk without having to use the DVD disc itself?

This works in WMP 11 ....

File > Open - navigate to the DVD contents on the hard drive > VIDEO_TS > select all > Open

The DVD should then play :)

See also the Windows Media Player section here ...
