I keep removing items from START and they constantly reappear along with items that I never put there. And then I get a message that there are too many items there. I have limited the number of items to put there but it makes no difference.
    How do I stop this???

    Hi yankee1620.

Please list a few of the shortcuts that reappear in the Start menu.

The ones in bold type above the line are ones I want there...but then there is a line below them from which I keep removing items from the list. Every time I use a program it gets put back on the list!! It is very annoying. For instance, this AM I used my browser, Winzip, and Registry Mechanic and the Profile Manager from my browser and they all got put right back on the Start list. I removed them and when I used them again they appeared right back on the list from which I had just removed them!
There must be some way to stop it from doing this but I don't know what it is. When I remove something, I want it removed and I don't want to see it there again....
    Thanks,
    Dixie:mad:

Right click on the Start button, left click on Properties.

On the Start Menu tab, click on Customize button. In the window that opens, on the General tab, under recently used programs, for "Number of programs on Start Menu," set the number to zero, click OK and OK.

The Most Recently Used Program list will then be empty and stay empty.

    Gee whiz....
What you were referring to is the "MRU" list - Most Recently Used programs list. This is a very handy list for quicky finding and reopening an app the you recently used. It's faster than using Start > All Programs ....

Are you sure you want to defeat this feature ? The list doesn't hurt anything and is only a quick shortcut.
