When I try to setup the email for Netscape 7.2 on Windows XP Professional I cannot get it to work. I can receive but not send. The error message I get -

Sending of message failed. Message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server failed. It may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.

Can someone clue me in on what to do next. I have tried all the options I have and have checked all the posts but to no avail.

    Thanks.

    happygram: Welcome to the BBS!

You don't say who your ISP is, but I had a similar problem recently because my ISP (ATT.Yahoo) shut the door on e-mail clients that don't support SSL. I was using Netscape 7.1 and ATT's tech support people told me they support Outlook and Outlook Express but haven't supported Netscape versions newer than 4.x. No mention of Thunderbird and Firefox. They gave me some different port numbers to use, but I got the same results and error message you're getting and I wound up switching to SeaMonkey. I don't know if other ISP's have the same policy or not.

If your situation is different enough from the one I had, maybe there's a different solution. In any case, get back to us and let us know a few more details. Maybe somebody else can help you out. Good luck.

    Not so happygram,
Bobbo may have hit it on the head. If you have att/yahoo/sbcglobal, you may have to change your mail program, but, most definitely the settings. I know that this issue came up, probably, at another newsgroup, and the proper ports were entered.
I think that NS7.2 has SSL

    Netscape 7.2 email

I checked with my provider which is vistabeam wireless and they do not filter or change ports. They said that netscape strips my login which is: _________ and sends joysmail therefore using the wrong login.

    Netscape 7.2 email

Got it figured out with the help of my ISP.
    .
Go to mail and newsgroups acct settings
On left side click server settings
Server type - pop Mail Server
    Server name - mail.(server name).com Port - 110
User name - entire email address (Netscape defaults to my name)

Back to left side go down to :
Outgoing server SMPT and click on that
    SMTP settings
    Server name - mail.server.com Port 25
UNCHECK the box - use name and password
    Use secure Connection - NO
    Click OK

    It now works great.
    Thanks for your support.
    :) :)

    Muchsimpler than we thought.
I have Cox, and I don't need to entire the entire address, as long as I select the proper POP setting.
As for sending, it is vey much like yours, except that it does not matter if the username is selected or not. In fact, it is preferable to check the username, if I want to send mail like from aim.com, using the Cox smtp.

    invalid server

I travel a lot and have to change the outgoing server in the server settings of the mail sw. Chances are either your ISP won't accept the server selected or your business server (if it's the case) requires you to use their server.
back home, or in my office, my ISP won't let me use by business server, so I have to change the setting to their "relais" (relay) server.
    Good luck!
