    Hi,

My PC has Win XP sp2 installed. I just bought a stick of RAM of 1GB to join my previous stick of 512Mb (DDR 400). I am concerned that i am not using it to the full? As regards to the size being displayed both in MS DOS and XP the RAM size is correct. I am concerned regarding Virtual memory and page file. How shall I set that correctly?

    Thanks and regards

    Alan :)

If Windows is recognising the total installed RAM it is using all of it :)

The Pagefile will automatically vary in size according to the needs of the running processes and the amount of installed RAM if it is set to Windows Managed. This is the default, but, IMO, has the disadvantage that the Pagefile can become fragmented. I therefore set a fixed size pagefile equal to 1.5 x installed RAM - MS reccomended size and probably OTT.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change - screenshot.

    More or less yes.

It would be better if you increase it to approx. 4000 MB & set initial & Max. size to the same value.
