Some of this is new to me so if I stumble with the explaination forgive me.
I have a Konica business copier that will scan to SMB. Customer has a Win 2003 small business server using Active Directory. I've created a shared folder on the server to receive the scans but they fail. I'm told that a server running Active Dir can't receive such scans. Is this true and is there some work around? I noticed that workstations on this network don't see the server as part of the network.
What's the trick to this AD?

Usually DNS. Have a look at this forum sticky.

However, SBS is usually set up with DHCP so this may not be the problem unless whoever set up the network either mis-configured DHCP or ignored it and set up the PC manually.

As for your printer: I've not used the printer in question, but in my experience by far the simplest network scanning system to set up is scan to e-mail. This usually means all you have to set up on the printer is the address of your mail server (with SBS - that should be your server running Exchange). It is usually worth creating a dummy user account to use for things like this: for account credentials and a generic from: e-mail address.

If you are being nice to your users you can often get a network printer to talk to AD via LDAP, and this will populate an address book in the printer. Users then don't have to know an e-mail address, to send a scan to someone - just pick their name from a list. If LDAP doesn't work, some printers will let you upload an address to name CSV file.
