Interesting. Dual boot XP-home / XP-pro. I have no idea but would love to have you post back about any issues he has. The system may be unique.

XP pro WON’T install in dos,on freshly wiped HD?!

XP pro WON’T install in dos,on freshly wiped HD?!

so I have to install W98, to install XP pro from windows?!

i thought XP installed direct from CD,but you cannot to a wiped HD

Once you start XP install,it has option to install in same windows folder (ie W98 ), warns will erase current wins, that's only way to prevent dual boot, and get XP pro as sole OS!!

    dos trouble

Yes/No to your only way to install winxp. Yes XP hates Dos. When you place the winxp cd in tray set the bios to first device=cdrom second device=hd0 save settings & restart. The setup begins when you see the menu "press any key to boot from cd ". The default install is "Upgrade present OS? "(recommended). Click the arrow & in the drop down menu select NEW installation. Setup will partition & format the remaining FREE SPACE for your CLEAN install.:)
