SeaMonkey files too large. How do I reduce & Save existing emails

I switched from Netscape 7.2 email to SeaMonkey. I have 5 email accounts and the in and out files are getting too large. How is the best way to reduce the file sizes? I need to save the files/emails for future reference.

Also, if you want to have the files available as folders, you can do one of two things:
    1. Create a folder or a subfolder. Then move related e-mails to it. That folder won't grow with new mail. Your Inbox should be available only for new mail, not as a storage bin.
    2. You can do a wholesale move, by renaming the existing Inbox file to anything different from it. I have used: Inboxold, Oldinbox, Inbox2, etc.
I don't recommend that, because everything is piled up, and not so easy to find.
And, most important the folders should be compacted, to release any deleted mail from the background (yes, it remains attached, even when deleted).

I have 4,000 to 10,000 emails in inbox and need to save, yet be able to access. Opening this file and searching takes too long. How can I reduce it and or save it and start a new inbox and sent files?

Create folders under your inbox & move items there...

    Colonade,

As you can see I have merged the two threads you started, on the same subject. Please keep your replies in this single thread.

    Thanks!
