I just updated my Windows XP with the SP2 and now I'm having some slight problem with my network setting. I'm not quite sure how to fix it.

I currently have a Linksys Router for the computer downstairs and was unable to access the internet on either computer so I turned that off and directly connect the cable (I have fiber optics.. no modem) to my computer instead. It connected online, however, my local area connection keeps saying limited or no connectivity.

    Any help please? :/

    Hi, we'll need more info.

Start by posting your ipconfig /all output.

You can do this by runing this command from a cmd prompt:

    ipconfig /all > ipconf.txt

    post this info here.

This is while the cable is directly connected to my computer and not the router. When it's on the router, it won't even connect at all online. (I've also tried reseting the router too). I'm not sure if that's an issue with the router itself as well, or with this one.

You'll have to set the LAN connection to use the settings as shown under Connection-specific DNS Suffix .

So configure your LAN IP address, DNS server & Gateway as shown.

If you want to use the router it is probably best to set your router as a DHCP server & set your systems to obtain IP addresses automatically.

You'll have to configure your router to connect to your ISP.

For manual IP configuration: Open the Local Area Connection Properties, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button. On the General tab you can configure the settings.

If you want to setup your router with a DHCP server, you'll have to check your routers documentation.

I tried it and it didn't really do anything. I still had limited connectivity. I'm not sure if it's cause I'm doing it wrong or what? I manually configured it so that it wasn't doing it automatically, but it's still not showing up as having any dns suffix at all when I go back to checking the ipconfig.

Is the problem primarily on my computer connections or with the ADSL? I've had issues with their services before.. hence the question.

I don't think there's anything else I can suggest at this point.

    I suggest contacting your ISP.
