    Hi There:

About a month ago I bought a Microsoft Wireless Desktop in Bogota, Colombia, S.A.

I followed the installation instructions to the T.

Nevertheless, I have the following problems:

a- The wireless hardware blocks the screen saver.
b- The F8 Key does not function when I try to bring the
macro window while in WORD 2000.

I've tried to get around this as per M.S. recommendations, i.e. through config. sys and add/remove on the control panel.

    No dice.

I'd appreciate some help. Otherwise the hardware works fine.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Norman - Welcome to the Board :)
Is the F Lock key toggled to the right setting? Do the other F keys work as expected?

    Hi there Pete C:

Thanks for your help. All the other F keys and short-cut keys work fine. The F8 key also works when I'm booting up in Safe Mode. The screensaver doesn't kick in with this wireless rig.

I don't understand your question about the lock key being toggled correctly.

I'm now demoting myself to "barely experienced," in these matters.

    Thanks again.

MS Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 .....

On my example all the F keys have a second option ....

    F1/Help, F2/Undo ........ F7/Send, F8/Forward ...... F11/Save, F12/print.

On the right hand side of the keyboard, above the number pad is the F Lock key which toggles the F key series to the second option noted above.

I don't think the F Lock key is an issue here - sounds like you do not have one anyway.

I'll need to think further on this strange problem, but not now, past midnight here :)

    Pete:

In Spanish we have a saying. " He who doesn't know, is like he who doesn't see." (me in this case)

Well, I looked closely at the F Lock Key, following your instructions, and pressed it. The transceptor lit up indicating it was locked, so I unlocked it.

Still, no dice. Screensaver will not kick in.

    Demoting myself to ignoramus-beginner.

It's now becoming a matter of "honor" between me and this wireless hardware.

    Thanks for your help.

A new day works wonders - as soon as I got up this morning I remembered that I had exactly the same screensaver problem when I was using the wireless desktop, although I have a recollection that the problem may have been intermittent. Thought I had bookmarked the solution, but no :( - anyway found it again ....

The screen saver does not start after you install a wireless pointing device

I have no ideas re. F8 in Word though.

    Pete:

    Thanks for your help.

Microsoft was my first option when the problem came up.

I don't have the Cyberlink Power DVD installed on this machine, so that fix is out.

And PCMService.exe is not on the msconfig startup tab.

Could it be that since this is the XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION, the problem is embedded somewhere else?

Once again, thanks for your help.

Did you check to see if the Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter was offered as an optional update through Microsoft Update?

    Have you seen this ....

Screensaver doesn’t work in Media Center particularly the last line ....

    Pete:

I ended the ehtray.exe process, and now my emails are not going out or coming in. Don't know if it's a local ISP email issue, or related to the terminatio of ehtray.exe process.

    Heeeeeeelp!

ehtray.exe loads a system tray icon that allows you to control various aspects of Media Center - it is not related to email. A reboot will restart the process, but I suspect the mail problem is pure coincidence.
